ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Kylie Hase scored in the 83rd minute and Purdue women's soccer recorded its fourth shutout of the season, winning its Big Ten Conference opener at Michigan 1-0 Thursday.
The Boilermakers (6-2, 1-0 B1G) posted their first-ever win in Ann Arbor and their first victory vs. Michigan (3-2-3, 0-1-0 B1G) since 2009. Purdue won its Big Ten opener on the road for the second year in a row, doing so with its first-ever road victory vs. the opponent in the process. Prior to last year's conference-opening win at Illinois, the Boilermakers had not started league play with a win since 2008.
Purdue goalkeeper Katie Luce made four saves, highlighted by a sliding tackle save in the 75th minute to break up a breakaway opportunity for the Wolverines' Reilly Martin.
The Boilermakers peppered Michigan goalkeeper Sarah Jackson with nine shots on goal, including eight in the second half. Jackson kept her team in the game with eight saves.
Hase finally broke the scoreless deadlock with seven minutes and 25 seconds remaining in regulation. The freshman scored her second goal of the season with a sliding shot from the top of the six-yard box. Hannah Mussallem set up the goal with a cross from the right flank. All three of Mussallem's assists this season have come on game-winning goals.

Purdue had not won a 1-0 game on the road since September 2013 at Ohio State. Hase joined Maddy Williams (twice) and Dannah Williams as active Boilermakers to score the game winner in 1-0 victories.
Michigan entered the night having conceded only four goals in its first seven games. Hase's goal is the only one the Wolverines have conceded in 470 minutes at home this year.
Purdue generated 11 shots and five corner kicks in the second half. A 12-minute stretch early in the second half helped swing the momentum in the visitors' favor after they were credited with just three shots while being held without a corner in the opening 45 minutes. From the 52nd through 64th minutes, the Boilermakers had a 6-0 edge in shots and generated four corner kicks. Hase challenged Jackson with a pair of headers off corners during that stretch.
But Purdue still had to withstand another Michigan flurry before Hase broke the scoreless stalemate. From the 69th to 75th minutes, Luce had to make two tough saves and Purdue caught a break when U-M's Taylor Timko hit the crossbar with a shot off a corner kick. In the 69th minute, Luce dove on a ball inches from the goal line. That sequence began with a free kick into the six-yard box that was redirected by Jada Dayne.
Sarah Clark, Vanessa Korolas, Maya Lambert, Gabby LaMere and Mussallem went the distance among the Purdue field players. Hase only left the field briefly in the second half due to injury. Katie Stephens logged 18 minutes to lead the reserves.
Despite not scoring in the first half for the first time this season, the Boilermakers managed to extend two notable goal streaks that both date back to the end of the 2016 campaign. Purdue has now scored a goal in 10 consecutive games and scored first in nine straight. The latter streak is a program record.
The Boilermakers entered the night 0-8-2 all-time in Ann Arbor, a mark that included a Big Ten Tournament loss to Wisconsin in 2005. Piscataway was the only other Big Ten town in which Purdue had never won, but the sample size was much different since the Boilermakers have only played two games in New Jersey against league newcomer Rutgers.
Purdue closes its conference-opening road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. ET game at Michigan State.
