WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -Purdue had two players represented on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, the organization announced Tuesday.
Rising seniors Dakota Mathias and P.J. Thompson were named to the squad, after posting high grade-point averages during the season. Thompson owns a cumulative 3.21 GPA while majoring in organizational leadership, while Mathias carries a 3.20 GPA in management.
Just nine Big Ten players were named to the squad and Mathias was the only member to earn any All-Big Ten honor after the season.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student must meet a high standard of academic criteria, including a cumulative 3.2 grade-point average at the conclusion of the academic year. Honorees must also academically have junior or senior status and have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
Thompson and Mathias each started all 35 games a year ago for the Boilermakers, helping Purdue to the Big Ten title and a 27-8 overall record. Thompson averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 assists per game while making 53-of-152 (.402) 3-pointers throughout the season. Mathias was named to the Big Ten's All-Defensive Team while averaging 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, shooting 72-of-159 (.453) from long distance.
