Adelaja Nominated for NCAA WOTY

June 30, 2017

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue graduate and former volleyball standout, Faye Adelaja has been nominated for the NCAA's Woman of the Year award. Her commitment to giving tireless effort on and off the court throughout her time at Purdue has made her a worthy candidate for the accolade.

In her time sporting the black and gold, Adelaja was an AVCA and Prep Volleyball All-America Honorable Mention, as well as a two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention and AVCA First Team All-Northeast Region recipient. She is this year's female recipient for the Purdue Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award and was named to four all-tournament teams throughout her career.

The middle blocker is ranked second in Purdue history for career hitting percentage (.362) and is eighth all-time in career block assists (341). Two of her four years competing as a Boilermaker rank among the top 10 best all-time seasons for hitting percentage as she hit .397 in 2015 to rank second all-time and .367 in 2016 to rank fifth all-time. Her 127 block assists in 2013 place her ninth in program history. She is just one-of-12 student-athletes to ever record 700 kills and 350 blocks as a Boilermaker.

As a Movement & Sport Sciences major she was recognized as a four-time Academic All-Big Ten Selection and was the College of Health & Human Sciences Banner Bearer for the December 2016 graduation ceremony. Throughout her time at Purdue, Adelaja was featured frequently on Purdue University's Dean's List as well as Purdue Athletics Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Coach's Honor Roll. If she wasn't studying or polishing her craft on the court she was active in the community as she volunteered or participated in 15 community service initiatives or leadership projects. Her service spanned across a number of areas including athletic leadership programs, volunteering in the medical field, educating children and charity events.

Each conference office reviews the nominations from its core member schools and submits its conference nominee(s) to the NCAA. Then, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee selects the Top 30 ââ'¬" 10 from each division and then three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics selects the winner from the Top 9. All 30 Woman of the Year honorees will be recognized, and the 2017 Woman of the Year announced, at an awards dinner in Indianapolis on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017.
