WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" A trio of Purdue golfers were named to the Division I Ping All-Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced recently.
Seniors Austin Eoff and Fernando Barco and sophomore Timmy Hildebrand were 3-of-25 players named to the Midwest Region team, and Purdue was 1-of-3 teams to have at least three players named to the squad (Illinois, Kent State).
Eoff wins the honor for the fourth time, while Barco earns his second All-Region honor. Hildebrand was named to the All-Region team for the first time.
Barco, a native of Lima, Peru, finished his season with the sixth-best single-season stroke average in school history at 72.66 and had five top-20 finishes in 11 events this year. He ended the year by posting a counting score in 23 consecutive rounds and owned 12 rounds of even-par or better this year. He finished his career ranked fifth on Purdue's career stroke average list (73.61).
Eoff, who hails from Benton, Arkansas, finished his senior season with a 72.86 stroke average, good for 10th on the single-season list. A four-time All-Big Ten selection, Eoff ends his career as the school's career leader in stroke average (72.82) and events played (54). He was a member of the counting squad in every event played during his collegiate career and owned four of the top-17 single-season stroke averages in school history.
A native of Westfield, Indiana, Hildebrand had a breakout season for the Boilermakers, earning his first All-Region accolade. He finished the year with a 73.03 stroke average, good for 14th on the Purdue all-time list. He led the team in top-10 (4) and top-20 (7) finishes, as well as rounds of even or under par (15), the ninth most in a season in school history. His career average of 73.74 is the eighth-best average in Purdue history.
Purdue recently wrapped up play in the NCAA Championships, making its third appearance in four seasons under head coach Rob Bradley.
