WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" The No. 38-ranked Purdue men's golf team knows its destination for regionals, but will have to wait until the official announcement Thursday, May 4, on the Golf Channel, beginning at noon ET.
The Golf Channel will broadcast the NCAA Men's Golf Championship selection show on Thursday, beginning at noon ET. Eighty-one teams and select individuals will be sent to one-of-six sites around the country. From there, the top-five team finishers from the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA National Championships on May 26 to 31, at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
Should Purdue be selected, it will compete at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, on May 15 to 17.
Purdue is looking for its fourth straight NCAA Regionals appearance, which will tie for the second-longest NCAA appearance streak in school history, behind the 19 consecutive appearances made from 1949 to 1967.
Purdue is 1-of-3 Big Ten schools to advance to three straight NCAA Regionals, joining just Illinois and Iowa on the list. Since 2013, Purdue and Illinois are the only Big Ten schools to reach the national championship round.
Purdue's 28 NCAA National Championship appearance are the third most for a "northern" school, behind Ohio State (46) and BYU (30). Purdue's 28 appearances in the national championships are the second most for a Big Ten school.
The five other regional sites include the University Club (Baton Rouge, La.; LSU), The Grove (Murfreesboro, Tenn.; MTSU), Stanford Golf Course (Palo Alto, Calif.; Stanford), UT Golf Club (Austin, Texas; Texas) and Washington National Golf Club (Auburn, Wash.; Washington).
This will be the fifth NCAA competition held at the Kampen Course, but the first since the 2008 men's national championships. The course has also hosted the 2001 women's regional, 2003 women's national championships, 2004 men's regional and the above-mentioned 2008 men's national championship.
