WGOLF Trio Named All-B1G

April 25, 2017

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference announced its women's golf All-Big Ten awards Tuesday, naming Purdue senior August Kim and freshman Micaela Farah to the first team and sophomore Covadonga SanJuan to the second team. Kim is the 12th two-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree for the Old Gold & Black, while Farah is the first Boilermaker freshman to secure first-team recognition since Laura Gonzalez Escallon in 2010.

Less than 24 hours after becoming the first women's golfer in Purdue history to receive the Big Ten Medal of Honor, Kim added all-conference honors for the second straight season. The Boilermaker senior has been stellar in her final collegiate campaign, leading the team in every statistical category. Her 72.24 stroke average is currently the No. 2 single-season mark in program history, as she's played 16-of-25 rounds this season at par or better. She's placed in the top-10 of seven-of-nine tournaments, including the Henssler Intercollegiate title and an eighth-place effort at the conference championships.

Farah joins Kim on the first team, marking the first time since 2013 the Boilermakers have had multiple first-team honorees. Joining the team in January, Farah has carded a team score in all 16 rounds since arriving, and posted four top-20 individual finishes. She has four rounds of par or better, including a season-low 70 in the opening 18 of the 3M Augusta Invitational and owns the best par-3 average on the roster, averaging 3.09 strokes per hole.

SanJuan nabs her first career all-conference honor and becomes the fourth member of the active roster to earn recognition from the Big Ten. The Boilermaker sophomore owns a 74.7 stroke average over 22 rounds this season, including six scores of par or better and a career-low score of 69 at the Henssler Intercollegiate. She has one top-10 and four top-20 individual showings on the season and has counted a team score in 17-of-22 rounds on the year.

Junior Marta Martin jumped in on the honoree list as well, earning the Boilermakers' sportsmanship award. The Spanish native has played in all nine team events for the Old Gold & Black, carding 25 rounds, including a third-place individual finish to lead Purdue to the Minnesota Invitational title.

The Boilermakers await word of an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will be announced Thursday at 11 a.m. ET on GolfChannel.com. Seventy-two teams and 24 individuals will be selected to compete at one of four regional championships, each featuring 18 teams and six individuals, May 8-10. The four regional sites include Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course, in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by The Ohio State University; The Rawls Course, in Lubbock, Texas, hosted by Texas Tech University; the University of Georgia Golf Course, in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia; and the University of New Mexico Championship Course, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
