WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team returns to the Peach State for its third straight event this weekend, traveling to Athens, Georgia, for the 45th-annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by the Bulldogs at the UGA Golf Course. The three-day tournament is the second stroke-play event of the season for the Old Gold & Black, following a fourth-place showing at the Gifford Great 8 Match Play at UCLA.

The Boilermakers aim to turn their recent stroke play success into match-play victories over the weekend, teeing it up against another stellar field. Purdue won the 3M Augusta Invitational on March 19, shooting 14-over, 878, and backed it up with a second-place effort at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate at Kennesaw State on March 28, carding a score of 13-over, 877.

Senior August Kim continues to lead the charge for the Boilermakers, earning back-to-back Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week honors and carding six straight rounds of par or better. However, the Boilermakers' team success can also be contributed to the improved and consistent play of sophomore Covadonga SanJuan and freshman Micaela Farah. SanJuan has finished tied for fifth at three-over, 219, and tied for 12th at four-over, 220, in her last two outings, while Farah has posted a pair of top-20 individual finishes as well with matching scores of five-over, 221, tying for 11th at Augusta and tying for 14th at Kennesaw.

Tournament play opens Friday with a single-round of stroke play to determine match-play seedings. The top-eight teams after 18 holes will advance to the championship bracket, opening with the quarterfinals Saturday morning, while the bottom four finishes will compete in round-robin action Saturday and Sunday.

THE FIELD
The 45th- annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic features another powerhouse field, including three top-10 squads, six of the top-25 and 11 of the 12 teams residing in the top-100 in the nation. Top-ranked Alabama aims to defend its 2016 event title, topping UCLA, 3-2, in the championship match, while Southern California, Auburn, Denver, the Boilermakers and the host Bulldogs look for some redemption of their own.
