WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -The Purdue women's tennis team enters a light weekend Saturday with only one match against in-state rival Indiana at 10 a.m. ET at the Schwartz Tennis Center. After returning from their spring break, the Boilermakers competed in back-to-back contests last Saturday and Sunday, going 0-2 against Michigan State and No. 10 Michigan.
The relaxed schedule should favor the home team as the Hoosiers spent the week preparing for two opponents; Indiana hosts Marquette on Sunday.
While the Hoosiers dominate the all-time series record 8-53, Purdue has won five of the last six, including all three in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Boilermakers didn't pick up their first victory until 1998 with the series beginning in 1976.
A win Saturday would end a 10-match skid for the Boilermakers, dating back to Jan. 29 at Dartmouth, and the team is favored with the Govenor's Cup match at home. Additionally, Purdue's lineup returns to full strength with both seniors Natalia Davila and Andjela Djokovic ready for play, and the team outperformed Indiana against the same two competitors a week ago.
Although the Boilermakers and Hoosiers both lost to Michigan State 5-2, Purdue picked up two wins in doubles against No. 10 Michigan, including a 7-5 mark over the No. 2 tandem in the nation, as well as a victory in singles. Conversely, Indiana was shutout 4-0 by the Wolverines.
