WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 4-seeded Purdue looks for its first Elite Eight appearance in 17 years when it battles top-seeded Kansas in its own backyard Thursday in the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Tip is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET / 8:40 p.m. CT and will be televised by CBS.
TEAM NOTES
- Purdue is making its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2010 and its third trip to the Regional Semifinal under Matt Painter (2009, 2010).
- Purdue has scored 80 points in back-to-back NCAA Tournament games for the first time since the 1998 first and second rounds. The last time Purdue scored 80-plus points in three straight tournament games came during the 1994 tournament.
- Purdue is shooting 50.0 percent from the field in its two tournament games, including 45-of-78 (.577) from inside the three-point line.
- The Boilermakers have 43 assists against 20 turnovers in NCAA play and is outrebounding foes by 10.0 rebounds per game.
- Five players average at least 10.5 points per game in NCAA Tournament play and another one, P.J. Thompson, averages 7.5 points.
- Purdue (8th) and Kansas (5th) are among the top 10 nationally in 3-point percentage. The teams also rank 65th (Purdue) and 69th (Kansas), respectively, in field goal percentage defense.
- Both Purdue and Kansas won their respective conference regular-season crowns. And both teams lost in the first round of the conference tournament.
- Purdue's junior class averaged 50.0 points, 17.5 rebounds and 12.0 assists in two NCAA Tournament games. The group shot 41-of-73 (.561) from the field. The class scored 100 of Purdue's 160 points (62.5 percent) in the first two games.
