WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team heads out to the west coast to start their 2017 spring break trip, set for the Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play, hosted by UCLA at Brentwood Country Club beginning Monday. The tournament marks the Boilermakers' first match-play event of the season, and they head into the eight-team bracket as the No. 4 seed.

THE FIELD
The Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play features eight top-tier programs, mostly hailing from the west coast and the Pac 12 Conference. Southern California will be the top seed in the event, while the host Bruins are right behind them as the No. 2 seed. SEC standout Georgia is the three seed, while Purdue and Big Ten rival Ohio State will meet in the opening round as the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds.

THE COURSE: Brentwood Country Club
The Brentwood Country Club plays host to the inaugural edition of the Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play. The private club plays par 72, 6,294 yards and has been open since 1910. Its designers include John Harbottle III, Max Behr, Todd Eckenrode and Willie Watson.

AT THIS EVENT
Monday is the first-ever edition of the Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play, one of several new match-play events starting across the country due to the new NCAA Championship format. Similar to the championship rounds of NCAA, the event features an eight-team field, which will compete in two match plays the first day and the placing rounds the second day.

#BOILERNOTES
- Sophomore Covadonga SanJuan has been the Boilermakers' top finisher in two straight tournaments, posting a two-over, 218, to tie for 18th at The Dickson in Houston last time out
- The Boilermakers matched the eighth-best team round in program history at The Dickson, shooting a six-under, 282, in the opening round
- SanJuan matched her top individual showing of the season at the 2017 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, carding a four-over, 220, including a second-round, two-under, 70
- Senior August Kim has played 60 percent of her rounds at par or better this season, good for a team-high nine rounds at the mark
- Kim owns the Boilermakers' only two eagles of the season, making one in each of her last two tournaments, including a 3 on the 473-yard par 5 in the final round at The Dickson
- Freshman Micaela Farah has turned in a qualifying team score in each of her first six rounds as a Boilermaker, including a career-best 71 in the opening round at The Dickson
- Purdue won its season-opening tournament for the second straight season, tying for the team title at the Minnesota Invitational (Sept. 12-13)
- The Boilermakers placed two individuals in the top-10 of three straight tournaments in the fall, marking the first time since 2013, when they accomplished the feat in six consecutive outings
- The Boilermakers' sixth-place effort at the Windy City Collegiate was their best since winning the event in 2011, and marked their first tournament victory over conference rival Northwestern since the 2013 NCAA Championships
- Purdue finished the fall by shooting eight-over, 872, at the Landfall Tradition and taking fourth place in an impressive field in Wilmington, North Carolina
- Kim advanced to Stage III of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament in the fall, one-of-11 amateurs to reach the final stage
- GolfWeek.com's Lance Ringler picked the Boilermakers to win the Big Ten Conference this season.
- Purdue has four players currently on the LPGA Tour, including tour rookie Laura Gonzalez Escallon who tied for eighth at the 2017 season-opening LPGA Pure Silk Bahamas event, and Maude-Aimee Leblanc who tied for seventh at the 2017 ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open
