WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue volleyball coach Dave Shondell has announced the addition of Erin Williams to the Boilermakers' roster.
A 5-foot-11 middle blocker, Williams is a transfer from Loyola Marymount University and is expected to arrive on campus in June. She will wear uniform No. 12 and have two years of eligibility.
"We are thrilled to have another wonderful student-athlete join our program," Shondell said. "Erin is impressive in the classroom and on the volleyball court. Her hitting numbers against top-15 opponents last year at LMU were excellent. Erin will remind Boilermaker fans of Faye Adelaja (middle blocker, 2013-16) and will give us three explosive weapons in the middle-hitting position this fall."
As a sophomore during the 2016 season, Williams played in all 30 matches for the Lions, with 25 starts. She averaged 1.63 kills per set while hitting at a .318 clip, a team-leading 0.73 blocks and 0.26 digs. Williams was named West Coast Conference all-academic honorable mention.
Williams was a member of LMU's NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team her freshman season, appearing in five matches, including two starts, and recording six kills and five block assists.
Williams was a three-year letterwinner at Long Beach Poly High School in Long Beach, California. She earned all-league honors each of her final three seasons and all-area recognition as a junior and senior. She was named to the Press Telegram Dream Team as a senior. Williams helped guide her squad to the Moore League championship her sophomore year. She competed for the SoCal Juniors Club Team (2009-14) and Golden West VBC (2014-15).
Williams is the daughter of Dale Capriece Ross-Williams and Thomas Williams III. She has one brother, TJ. At LMU, she was a film and television production major, boasting a 3.31 grade-point average.
In 2016, Purdue posted a 19-14 record against the fifth-toughest schedule in the country and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers remain in elite company as one of just 11 schools to advance to the NCAA Second Round 11 times in the last 13 seasons.
