WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue men's golfer Timmy Hildebrand has been named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week after his performance at the Puerto Rico Classic the league office announced today.

It marks the first weekly honor for Hildebrand and the first time this year that a Purdue golfer has been honored by the Big Ten.

In a tournament that featured nine top-50 squads, Hildebrand finished tied for third with a 54-hole total of 5-under par 211 (74-67-70). His 211 was the second-lowest score of his career while his second-round 67 was a career-best round and the lowest for a Boilermaker this season.

Hildebrand, a sophomore from Westfield, Indiana, has recorded two straight top-10 finishes, the first of his career, after an eighth-place showing at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in October. He has played the last two tournaments in a combined 12-under par.

Hildebrand is tied for the team lead in stroke average at 72.71 strokes per round, the sixth-best average in school history. He leads the team in top-20 finishes (4), rounds of par or better (8), birdies (53) and has had a team-best seven consecutive scoring rounds.

Hildebrand and his teammates will next compete at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on March 4 and 5, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
