USATF Indiana Release

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Janae' Moffitt was named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for January 2017, the organization announced Wednesday. Moffitt won the high jump at three meets and added one runner-up finish.

Moffitt, a sophomore from Marion, Indiana, had been chasing the six-foot barrier since she arrived on campus. She cleared 1.81 meters (5-11.25) indoors as a freshman to win the Big Ten, then 1.82 meters (5-11.50) outdoors to finish second at the conference meet, but hadn't quite made it over six feet. That changed at the Fred Wilt Open on Jan. 28 when she cleared 1.84m (6-0.50). Moffitt was clean over 1.71m (5-7.25), 1.76m (5-9.25) and 1.81m (5-11.25) - the same as she did at the 2016 Big Ten Championships - before her first attempt at 1.84m (6-0.50). It took her two attempts, but she made it over. The mark is No. 2 in the Big Ten this season, No. 3 in school history and tied for No. 11 in the NCAA this season.

Moffitt also won the high jump at the Purdue vs. Indiana Dual and the Gene Edmonds Open, before taking second at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational.

The award from USATF Indiana is the first of her collegiate career. Earlier this season, Moffitt was honored by the Big Ten when she was named the women's conference field athlete of the week after winning the Indiana Opener in December.

Moffitt will be back in action this weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Boilermakers will send the majority of the team to that meet, while a select few distance runners will head to the Iowa State Invite. Both meets run Friday through Saturday.
