LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Boilermakers opened the Rod McCravy Invitational on Friday at the University of Kentucky. Twenty-five individuals competed on the first day of the two-day meet, including two who had runner-up finishes.
Janae' Moffitt had a runner-up finish after clearing three bars in the women's high jump. Her best clearance was 1.78 meters (5-10.00), which she made on her first attempt. Sarah Loesch had the other runner-up finish after posting the best series of her career. Loesch had four throws over 19.50m (63-11.75) and all six throws went at least 61 feet. Her best was a throw of 19.75m (64-9.50).
Alisha Bahler also made finals in the women's weight throw. She finished ninth with a mark of 17.97m (58-11). Jessica DelBovo took 16th with a best of 14.87m (48-9). In the men's weight throw, Caleb Fricke finished 11th with a throw of 17.96m (58-11), while Luke Lewis was 15th.
The men's and women's 200m dashes were held Friday. Carmiesha Cox was the top Boilermaker in the women's race. She won her heat with a time of 23.94 seconds, which held up as the No. 8 overall time through the 16 heats. Brionna Thomas was runner-up in her heat and had the 12th fastest overall time. She crossed the finish line in 24.14 seconds. Savannah Roberson also had a heat runner-up finish. She was 17th overall with a time of 24.40 seconds. Chloe Abbott finished 26th with a time of 24.68 seconds, while Myia Dorsey was a heat winner with a time of 24.72 seconds. Sekayi Bracey and Shantyra Delaney were also in the event and ran times of 24.75 seconds and 25.90 seconds, respectively.
In the men's 200m dash, Malcolm Dotson finished eighth overall with a time of 21.68 seconds. He was runner-up in his heat. Kyle Webb had the 10th fastest time overall and finished in 21.82 seconds. Keanu Pennerman was 18th in 22.04 seconds, while Justin Veteto ran a time of 22.58 seconds and Josh Ebikwo finished in 22.61 seconds.
Eric Blackman took fifth in the men's high jump. He cleared 2.05 meters (6-8.75) on his first attempt. In the women's long jump, Jaden Mattox made finals and finished sixth. Her best jump was 5.68m (18-7.75), which she leapt twice. Yamani Hunter also competed in the event and finished 14th. Katrina May finished 18th in the women's pole vault. She cleared 3.65m (11-11.75).
Gerald McGee made the finals in the men's long jump. He leapt 7.20m (23-7.50) on his second attempt, which led him to a seventh-place finish. Matthew Garrison and Rebecca Coan competed in the multi events. Coan finished ninth in the pentathlon with a score of 3,292, an improvement from her season opener. Her top scoring event was the shot put, where she threw 9.63m (31-7.25) to score 783 points. Garrison scored 2,152 through the first three events of the heptathlon, led by 783 points in the long jump.
The Boilermakers continue action Saturday and begin at 11 a.m. ET with the women's shot put and triple jump. Live scoring is available on PurdueSports.com. The meet will also be carried online on SEC Network+ online starting at noon.
