COLUMBUS, Ohio - Highlighted by Steele Johnson's sizable advantage atop the leaderboard, three Purdue divers have qualified for the 3-meter final at the USA Diving Winter Nationals.

Just as they did on 1-meter Friday, Johnson (879, 1st), Joe Cifelli (716, 9th) and Brandon Loschiavo (698.7, 10th) were among the nation's elite in a springboard event as they qualified for the final of the 3-meter event set for Tuesday.

Johnson will carry a 69.3-point lead into the final as scores are cumulative over the three rounds of competition. He's in search of his 11th career USA Diving senior national championship, but it would be his first in a springboard event. Monday, he'll enter the 1-meter final in fourth place, 14.80 points behind the leader.

Johnson posted list scores of 454.15 in the semifinal round and 424.85 in the preliminary. His score in the semi was a Purdue season best. He was very consistent in the afternoon session, averaging 75.69 per dive and scoring no worse than 70 points on any of his six dives. He had the advantage of diving last after winning the morning prelim and opened his list with a score of 82.15, which was his best of the day of the semi.

Cifelli posted list scores of 390.60 in the semi and 325.40 in the prelim. He was also more consistent in the afternoon, highlighted by scores of 77.5 and 81.6 in rounds two and six that were the best among the entire field of 13 divers.

Loschiavo posted list scores of 364.3 in the semi and 334.4 in the prelim. He was able to overcome a pair of poor dives in the prelim thanks to four scores that ranked among the top 10 in the 25-diver field. He earned a score of 72.85 on his second dive of both the prelim and semi.

Johnson moved to the top of the leaderboard with a strong finish to the prelim, averaging 78.9 per dive over the final three rounds. After a 50.75 in round three, he responded with an 86.7 on his next dive an inward 3 ½ somersault tuck. It was his top score of the day on any of his 12 dives.

Max Showalter is also scheduled to compete Monday in the 10-meter prelim, which is slated for part two of 10 a.m. ET morning session. The men's 1-meter final will be the final event (of three) of the 4:30 p.m. afternoon session.

The men's 3-meter final is set for approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
