BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
The Boilermakers won five events in the season opener Friday at Gladstein Fieldhouse. Malcolm Dotson had a great day at the Hoosier Open, running a personal best in the prelims and finals to win the 60-meter dash.

Dotson opened the meet with a time of 6.75 seconds to win the third heat with the fastest time of all the prelims. The time was 0.03 of a second better than his PR from last season. In the final, Dotson backed up his performance and ran a time of 6.73 seconds to win the event. That time ranks fifth in school history and is currently second in the country. His time is the fastest in a 60m dash time, as the only time listed above him in the country was converted from a 55-meter race.

Symone Black broke the 500-meter school record after narrowly missing it last year at the same meet. The junior was the top collegiate finisher in the event and second overall with a time of 1:11.68. Black's time is 1.01 seconds better than her PR from last year and breaks Cestie Rhule's record of 1:12.38, which was set in 1987. Brionna Thomas was just behind Black, finishing third overall with a time of 1:13.70, which won her heat.

Sarah Loesch had a huge PR in the women's weight throw. The sophomore finished third overall with a distance of 19.23m (63-1.25), which is one foot, four and a quarter inches better than her best from last year. Loesch's mark is the seventh best in program history.

Janae' Moffitt picked up where she left off after her successful freshman season a year ago. She won the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.79m (5-10.50). Moffitt jumped at 1.83m (6-0.00), which would have been a lifetime PR, but came up just short. Her final clearance ranks third in the country this season.

Savannah Roberson had a PR in the 60m hurdles and made the finals. She ran a time of 8.61 seconds in the prelims, which was 0.10 of a second better than her previous best. That time is tied for the eighth fastest in program history. In the finals, she ran crossed the line in 8.64 seconds to take fifth. Roberson also ran in the 300m dash and finished third with a time of 38.85 seconds. That was the fastest in her heat.

Autumn Heath and Sekayi Bracey advanced to the finals in the women's 60m dash. Heath opened with a time of 7.59 seconds, while Bracey ran a time of 7.63 seconds in her first career race. In the finals, Heath and Bracey both matched their prelims times, earning Heath a fifth-place finish and Bracey seventh.

Chloe Abbott broke the meet record in her first career 400m dash. The freshman finished runner-up with a time of 56.22 seconds. Myia Dorsey also opener her career Friday and finished sixth in the 300m dash with a time of 39.30 seconds.

The men's and women's 4x400m relay teams were both victorious in the opener. The women ran a time of 3:44.38 to hold off Kentucky by more than a second, while the men ran a time of 3:14.55 to edge Indiana by nearly a second. Yamani Hunter had an indoor PR in the women's long jump. She leapt 5.72m (18-9.25), nearly five inches better than her previous indoor best.

Kinard Rolle won the 500m dash with the second-fastest time in program history. He ran a time of 1:03.18 to hold off teammate Shawndail McLaren. Rolle's time ties Alvin McNair's No. 2 time in program history and is the fastest by a Boilermaker in the event since 1990. McLaren was runner-up Friday with a time of 1:03.67. That ranks fourth in school history. Keanu Pennerman made the finals in the men's 60m dash. He had a pair of sub-7.00-second times, including a 6.94 in the finals to take fourth.

The Boilermakers are off until the first weekend of the 2017. The team will host the Gene Edmonds Open on Jan. 6 and 7.
