Landfall Tradition Recap / Season Stats
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue senior August Kim became the second Boilermaker to earn weekly conference honors this fall, as she was named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. Kim wrapped up an outstanding fall season this weekend, securing second place at the 15th-annual Landfall Tradition and leading her team to a fourth-place team effort.
Kim joins junior teammate Linn Andersson on the Big Ten weekly honors list after shooting six-under, 210, at the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall. Kim was even-par after 18 holes, turned things up in the second round with a four-under, 68, and finished the weekend with a two-under, 70. She's now posted six consecutive rounds of par or better for the Old Gold and Black and finished in the top-10 of the individual standings of all three Purdue fall tournaments. Her second-round 68 is one stroke shy of her career-best and is tied for the 22nd-best round in program history, while her 54-hole mark of 210 matches the eighth-best tournament in the Purdue record book.
GolfWeek.com has Kim tabbed as the nation's No. 10 women's golfer, while GolfStat.com ranks Kim at No. 6 overall. She's averaging an outstanding 71.1 strokes per round so far this season and leads the Boilermakers with 27 birdies and 117 pars after 162 holes of golf.
The Boilermakers finish the fall season ranked in the top-20 for the second straight year, sitting 15th in the GolfWeek poll and 12th at GolfStat.com. Purdue played 8-of-9 rounds at five-over par or better, and had at least two golfers in the individual top-10 at three straight tournaments, marking the longest stretch since 2013.
Purdue resumes the 2016-17 season in February, hosting the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, and is scheduled for six spring events before the 2017 Big Ten Championships.
