WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 15-ranked Purdue men's basketball team hosts Georgia State in a Cancun Challenge contest Friday in Mackey Arena. It will be the first of four straight games as part of the Cancun Challenge.

Purdue is coming off its first November loss since 2012 when No. 3-ranked Villanova topped Purdue 79-76 in a Mackey Arena thriller Monday. Isaac Haas and Caleb Swanigan combined for 42 points for the Boilermakers, which had several chances late in the game against the Wildcats, but untimely turnovers during a key four-minute stretch late in the half did in the Boilermakers.

The duo of Swanigan and Haas is off to an historic start, being just 1-of-4 Purdue duos since 1972-73 to each score 20 points in back-to-back games. No duo in school history has done it three times in a row. If you add Vincent Edwards into the mix, Purdue's high-powered trio is averaging a combined 58.0 points per game between them.

Georgia State's head coach Ron Hunter was a longtime coach at IUPUI, but his teams never faced Purdue. The Panthers were a darling of the 2015 NCAA Tournament, defeating Baylor in the first round when Hunter's son, R.J., connected on about a 30-footer late in the game to seal the Bears' fate. Hunter famously fell off his stool as he was nursing an achilles' injury. Georgia State's top player this year is Indianapolis native and Indiana transfer Jeremy Hollowell, who is averaging 21.5 points per game.

It will be the first meeting between the two teams and Purdue is 5-3 all-time against schools from the state of Georgia.
