Stage II Results / LPGA Q School Information
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue senior August Kim continued her post-graduation planning over the weekend, playing in Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament and advancing to the third and final event. Kim tied for 52nd place at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida, shooting eight-over par, 296, over 72 holes, as the top-80 players move on to the final tournament, set for Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
One-of-11 amateur players to advance to the final stage, Kim got off to a solid start over the first 36 holes of play. She turned in an even-par, 72, in the opening round, sinking birdies on No. 14 and No. 1, to offset a pair of bogeys, and followed up with a one-over, 73, Friday to hold a spot in the top-30 after 36 holes.
The entire field struggled Saturday as most scores pushed over the even-par mark, including Kim's five-over, 77, which put her at six-over for the tournament and three strokes over the projected cut. However Kim kept things tight on the fourth and final day, giving away just one stroke on each side and finishing with a two-over, 74. She finished with a four-stroke cushion over the cut and moves on to chase her LPGA Tour Card in a month.
Only 14 players played the tournament at par or better, with Marianne Skarpnord taking medalist honors at 11-under, 277.
Kim rejoins her team this week for the Boilermakers' final fall season event, heading to Wilmington, North Carolina for the Landfall Tradition. The 18-team event begins Friday, Nov. 28, at the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall.
