LEBANON, Ind. -- The Purdue men's basketball staff spent part of Tuesday at Jackson Farms in Lebanon, Indiana, to visit with the Jackson family and Rick Mount to dedicate the large Mount sign on a grain silo off I-65.
A project two years in the making spearheaded by director of operations Elliot Bloom, the grain silo recognizes Mount's accomplishments at Purdue, while adding it's the home of "The Greatest Shooter That Ever Lived."
"I'd been wanting to start finding a way to put Purdue logos in visible spots around the state. I was on my way to Indianapolis and happened to see Jackson Farms here north of Lebanon and thought this would be a perfect place," Bloom said. "I found their number, left them a crazy message saying that I had an idea. Dean (Jackson) called me back and said, `You won't believe this, but I have an idea, too.' That's how this came about."
"It's something every Purdue fan should be proud of. I'm sure if you ask Rick, he's proud and humbled by it, and we are proud to be associated with Rick and Purdue," Jackson said.
Mount is the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,323 points from 1967 to 1970. He was a three-time All-American, leading Purdue to a runner-up finish in the 1969 NCAA Tournament.
