WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue men's basketball team opened its 2016-17 season with a spirited first practice that lasted about three hours on Cardinal Court.
The practice was a typical first practice in that there was a lot of instruction and energy in the facility. Two players, Dakota Mathias and Jacquil Taylor, left the practice needing to get stitches, forcing them to miss about the last hour of the first session of the year.
In addition, much of the practice was spent on new sets and shooting drills. Of note, Carsen Edwards, P.J. Thompson, Caleb Swanigan and Vincent Edwards all shot the ball very well on Saturday. Swanigan and Spike Albrecht also set the tone in Saturday's session, diving for loose balls and getting on the floor with effort plays.
The practice was the first-of-30 preseason practices for Purdue in advance of its season opener Nov. 11 against McNeese State.
