WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team is set to open the 2016-17 on Monday, heading to Minneapolis for the 2016 Minnesota Invitational, hosted by the Golden Gophers at the Minikahda Club. It marks the third straight year the Boilermakers have opened the season at Minnesota, winning the 2015 event behind a third-place effort from junior Linn Andersson.

THE FIELD
The Golden Gophers host an 11-team field for the season opener, including a trio of Big Ten squads and six of the top-50 from the final 2015-16 rankings. NCAA Championship qualifiers Furman and Texas headline the field, while the Boilermakers and Louisville both had individual national qualifiers.

THE COURSE: The Minikahda Club
The Minikahda Club is a 6,119-yard, par-72 course, established in 1898 in Minneapolis. It has played host to a variety of high-level events in its extensive history, including the 1916 U.S. Open, the 1927 U.S. Amateur and the 1998 U.S. Women's Amateur.

AT THIS EVENT
This is the Boilermakers' third trip to the Minnesota Invitational in as many years, placing sixth in 2014, and winning the team title last season behind a third-place effort from Linn Andersson. It was the eighth time in school history that Purdue had won its season-opening tournament (1981, 1985, 1986, 1988, 2000, 2006, 2013, 2015), making a 26-stroke improvement over its 2014 performance.

- The Boilermakers were a combined 17-4 in tournament play last season against Monday's opponent roster
- Purdue head coach Devon Brouse opens his 19th season at his alma mater, returning in 1998 and taking the Boilermakers to the postseason in 16 of the last 17 years
- Senior August Kim, junior Marta Martin and sophomore Covadonga SanJuan were all named to the Big Ten Conference Players to Watch list, published Aug. 31
- Kim had a busy summer, including her first career hole-in-one, medalist honors at the U.S. National Amateur Championship qualifier at Hawk Pointe Golf Club in Washington, New Jersey, and the North & South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Golf Country Club and advancement at the opening stage of LPGA Qualifying School
- Kim comes off a junior season in which she won the 2016 Big Ten Championships, becoming the sixth player in Purdue history to win the conference title, and individually qualified for the NCAA Championships

- Andersson's third-place round of one-under, 215, at Minnesota last year is the best round (in relation to par) of her Boilermaker career
