GLENVIEW, Ill. -- The Purdue men's golf team posted a pair of consistent rounds and sits in sixth place after 36 holes at the Windon Memorial Classic.
The Boilermakers are sixth at 8-over par 584 after rounds of 289 and 295. Florida leads the field at 8-under par 568, while Eastern Michigan (570), UC Davis (572), Northwestern (578) and Michigan (+6) round out the top five. Purdue is just six shots out of fourth place.
Due to a very brief lightning delay late in round two, all but two groups were able to finish the second round. The results are the current standings with the two groups left to finish.
Purdue is playing this week without one of its top players in senior Fernando Barco, who was representing Peru in the World Amateur Team Championships. Barco finished T-45th (out of 210 golfers) in the event that concluded Saturday.
Austin Eoff continued his strong early-season play, sitting in a tie for eighth place at 2-under par 142 (69-73). In his first round, he played his final 11 holes in 4-under par, including an eagle on the par-4, 424-yard 10th hole to kickstart his round. He would also birdie his 12th and 17th holes en route to his 19th career round in the 60s.
Eoff's second round featured three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys and through 126 holes this year, Eoff has yet to record a double-bogey or worse.
Brian Carlson is tied for 16th at even-par 144 (73-71), recording his 24th career round of even-par or better. Carlson started his first round with a double-bogey, but played his last 17 holes in 1-under par to finish his opening 18 holes with a 1-over par 73. Carlson then had a strong second round, sitting 2-under par through 16 holes before a late bogey dropped him to 1-under par on his round.
Carlson has now had a counting team score in 23 straight rounds dating to last year.
Sophomore Timmy Hildebrand continues his solid early-season play after recording rounds of 72 and 74 to finish 36 holes at 2-over par 146, good for 22nd place. Hildebrand started his day with birdies on his first two holes and was still 2-under par through 12 holes before a pair of bogeys in his final six holes dropped him to even par on his first round. During his second round, he was even-par through 13 holes, before two bogeys in his last five holes moved him to 2-over par for his round.
Nonetheless, his first-round 72 marked his fourth career round of even-par or better.
Freshman Thomas Lewis, playing in his first career tournament, is tied for 59th at 9-over par 153 (75-78). Lewis was 3-over par through his first three holes, but played his final 15 holes in even-par to be included in the first-round team score. In his second round, he was 2-over par through 13 holes, before playing the final five holes in 4-over par for his second-round, six-over par 78.
Jarle Volden is tied for 64th at 10-over par 154 (77-77). Volden had a whirlwind first nine holes, recording just one par on the outward nine, before playing his final 10 holes in even par. His second round was much of the same, playing the back nine in 1-under par, including an eagle on the par-5 15th hole.
Individually, Chad Phillips is tied for 73rd at 14-over par 158 (77-81).
The Boilermakers will tee off round three on Monday at 9 a.m. ET, likely being paired with Northwestern and Michigan
