WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬"- The Big Ten Network announced the non-conference basketball schedule today, with Purdue making three appearances on the network.
The premier event of the network's non-conference slate will come early in the season as defending national champion Villanova visits West Lafayette and Mackey Arena for a Gavitt Games showdown Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET.
It marks just the second time that a non-conference defending national champion has played in Mackey Arena. The first time came in the arena's first game way back on Dec. 2, 1967, when UCLA defeated the Boilermakers 73-71 in a Rick Mount vs. Lew Alcindor showdown.
Purdue's other two non-conference appearances on the network come Nov. 18, against Georgia State at 7 p.m., and Dec. 19, against Western Illinois at 6 p.m.
The exhibition game against Southern Indiana (Nov. 1) and the Dec. 21 contest against Norfolk State will be carried via BTN Plus.
The remainder of television assignments and times will be released at a later date.
The Boilermakers return three starters and seven letterwinners from last year's team that posted a 26-9 record and was ranked in the nation's top 25 all year long. This year's team is ranked in the top 20 of nearly all preseason polls.
