Day 2 Photo Gallery (Toledo)
TOLEDO, Spain --The Purdue men's basketball team spent its second day in Spain sightseeing in Toledo, before going through an hour-and-a-half practice at Real Canoe N.C. in Madrid.
The practice served as the lone European preparation for the Boilermakers' first game on its foreign trip Wednesday, tipping off at 8 p.m. local time / 2 p.m. ET.
Touring Toledo, the provincial capital of Toledo, the skyline and 85,000-resident city is highlighted by ancient Roman ruins and is now called the Imperial City. The Roman Circus in Toledo was one of the largest in Spain and chariot races were held on special holidays and commissioned by private citizens during big events.
The dominating feature of Toledo is the cathedral with construction dating to the 13th century. Having been influenced by a historical co-existence of Christians, Muslims and Jews, the cathedral took 250 years to complete. Inside, the church features wood alters that are painted with gold leaf and has fences and gates that are used as decorations and a way to protect ancient relics and artifacts.
The city is also known for bladed weapons, which are now popular souvenirs in the city. The Boilermakers visited a sword-making factory to begin its journey to Toledo.
Following a return to Madrid, the Boilermakers practiced at the site of tomorrow's game for about 90 minutes, basically to get the cobwebs out and to get the blood pumping. The majority of the practice was spent shooting and running through fast break opportunities, inbounds plays and offensive sets.
The Boilermakers will face Euro Colegio Casvi on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. local / 2 p.m. ET in Madrid. The game will not be streamed online (technological issues) and fans are encouraged to follow along on Twitter (@BoilerBall) for periodic updates.
