WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Fourth-year Purdue men's golf head coach Rob Bradley has released the 2016-17 schedule that features 10 regular-season events in addition to hosting the 2017 NCAA West Lafayette Regional at the Kampen Course in May.
The schedule promises to be one of the most competitive in school history.
"This year's schedule is one of the most challenging we have had and gives us a chance to compete against the top teams in the country," Bradley said. "We are excited about the opportunity to host NCAA Regionals and play the top events in the country. We have great senior leadership in Austin Eoff and Fernando Barco and a really good group of young golfers. I'm really forward to the season getting started."
Purdue will open the season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate on Sept. 10 and 11, in Zionsville, Indiana. It will mark the first time since Sept. 2009 that the Boilermakers will play in the event, although the team is familiar with the Wolf Run Golf Club, which is ranked as one of the top modern courses in the country.
The following weekend on Sept. 16 to 18, the Boilermakers head to one of America's top courses and tournaments for the Olympia Fields Country Club / Fighting Illini Invitational south of Chicago. Last year's 15-team field included nine teams that reached the NCAA Championships.
The next week, Purdue will look to defend its Windon Memorial Classic title at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois. The Boilermakers won last year's team title after shooting a school-record 830 (281-272-277) to win by 15 shots.
The Boilermakers then conclude their fall by traveling south to compete in the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 16-18) and the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate (Oct. 30-31).
The Tavistock in Windermere, Florida, is one of the most-prestigious tournaments of the fall, played at one of the country's most exclusive clubs, the Isleworth Golf & Country Club. The 2015 tournament featured national powers Arizona State, Augusta State, California, Florida, Illinois, UNLV, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
Concluding the fall season on Halloween, Purdue will aim to defend its championship when it heads to Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at the Grandover Resort. Purdue won last year's team title by two shots over North Carolina after a 30-under par score of 834 (277-266-291).
Purdue will then open the spring season on Jan. 14 to 16 with a practice weekend in Vero Beach, Florida, and the Purdue Alumni Match in Naples, Florida, on Feb. 4 and 5.
The Boilermakers return to the sunshine state looking for their first Big Ten title of any kind since 1981 with the Big Ten Match Play Championships Feb. 10 and 11 in Palm Coast, Florida. The Boilermakers have finished second, sixth and third at the event over the last three years, posting a combined 7-3-1 match-play record in the competition.
On Feb. 19 to 21, Purdue hosts the 25th anniversary of the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The star-studded field will include national powers Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia, Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Northwestern, Ole Miss, North Carolina State, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and Maryland. Six teams in this year's field reached last year's NCAA Championships.
Purdue will head west on March 4 and 5 for the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Boilermakers have finished tied for second and fourth in the previous two events hosted by the University of Michigan.
The Boilermakers will take three weeks off before traveling to Charleston, South Carolina, for the Hootie at Bull's Bay Intercollegiate on March 26 to 28. The event is hosted by the music group Hootie & the Blowfish and features one of the stronger fields of the year. Last year's tournament was comprised of traditionally-strong programs in Auburn, South Carolina, College of Charleston, Wake Forest, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina State.
Another three weeks off greets the Boilermakers before hosting the Boilermaker Invitational at the Kampen Course on April 15 and 16. The Boilermakers finished second a year ago and the course will provide a stiff tune-up for the NCAA Regional hosted there a month later. This year's field includes Purdue, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Indiana, Toledo, Cincinnati, UNLV, Southern Illinois, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, UCF and Kent State.
The Big Ten Championships will be held April 28 to 30 at a site yet to be announced.
Purdue will host the 2017 NCAA West Lafayette Regional on May 15 to 17 at the award-winning Kampen Course. It will mark the first NCAA event at the course since it hosted the 2008 NCAA Championships. The Boilermakers are one of just three Big Ten teams (Purdue, Illinois, Iowa) to reach three straight NCAA Regionals.
The NCAA Championships will be held May 26 to 31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, on the south side of Chicago.
Purdue finished last season ranked 33rd in the country and reached the NCAA Championships for the second time in three years under Bradley. The Boilermakers return four of their five regulars from last year's team and Bradley welcomes a highly-regarded recruiting class.
