Trio Named GCAA All-America Scholars

July 21, 2016

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬"- A trio of Purdue men's golfers were named to the Cleveland Golf / Srixon All-America Scholars team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

All nine players on the 2015-16 Purdue golf boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Austin Eoff, a rising senior from Benton, Arkansas, is a three-time PING All-Region honoree who led Purdue in stroke average for the second straight year at 72.76 per round, ranking tied for seventh on the single-season stroke average list. He finished the season with seven top-10 finishes, the second most by a Purdue player in school history. Eoff also ranks first in career stroke average (72.81) and has 14 career top-10 showings to rank fourth on the list.

In late April, Eoff became just the fifth Boilermaker in school history to be named All-Big Ten three times when he was tabbed to the first team.

Fernando Barco, a rising senior from Lima, Peru, was also named to the PING All-Region squad after ranking third on the team in stroke average (73.13). Barco, who started playing at age 13, was second on the team in top-20 finishes with eight and his spring average of 72.87 was the best average on the squad. Barco was also second on the team in rounds of even-par or better with 16.

Purdue's last honoree, Stuart Macdonald, was a regular in Purdue's lineup over the last three years, averaging 73.95 strokes per round as a senior and 74.51 for his career. Macdonald competed in last year's U.S. Amateur and is a member of Canada's national team.

All three Boilermakers were members of the Academic All-Big Ten team.

The Boilermakers concluded their 2015-16 season at the NCAA Championships after reaching college golf's premier event for the second time in three years. Purdue and Illinois are the only Big Ten teams to reach the NCAA National Championships since 2013. Bradley will return four starters (Eoff, Barco, Carlson, Jarle Volden) for the 2016-17 season, in addition to welcoming a highly-regarded recruiting class.
