WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's golf rising senior August Kim continued her streak of outstanding play into the summer, earning a trip to her second U.S. Women's Amateur Championship with a sectional qualifying win at Hawk Pointe Golf Club in Washington, New Jersey. Kim shot three-under, 69, to top the field of 57 golfers and secure one-of-five spots at the 51st-annual event, set for Aug. 1-7 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
Kim has had a wonderful summer of golf, winning the Big Ten Championships with a conference-record score of nine-under, 207, qualifying for the 2016 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and sinking her first career hole-in-one at the 116th Women's Western Golf Association (WWGA) Amateur National Championship at Dayton Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. Kim advanced to the quarterfinals at the WWGA event, cruising through stroke play and a few rounds of match play to finish as one of the top-eight competitors.
In 2014 Kim played in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championships at Nassau Country Club in Long Island, New York, advancing to match play before falling to quarterfinalist Alison Lee, 3&2. Joining Kim at this year's event will be former Boilermaker teammate Aurora Kan, who topped the qualifying field at Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland on June 28, with a three-under, 69. Kan and Kim played together with the Boilermakers from 2013 to 2015.
