EUGENE, Ore. - After leading the national field after the first day of competition, Purdue junior August Kim dropped a few spots at the 2016 NCAA Women's Golf Championships on Saturday at Eugene Country Club, shooting three-over, 75, and sitting tied for 19th in the individual standings. The Boilermaker junior had just one slip-up on her second day of competition, shooting three-over par, 75, Saturday and remains tied for 19th place at one-under, 143, for the tournament.
Kim opened Saturday on the front-nine, making par on the first two holes before surrendering a bogey on the third hole to slip one spot. She rebounded with birdies on No. 7 and No. 8 to close up the front nine at one under on the day and five under for the tournament, and went on to trade stokes back-and-forth on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes. Kim's only major slip-up of the tournament came on the par-three, 14th, making a triple-bogey, six, to fall to three-over par on the day. She parred out the rest of the round for a 75, and remains nine shots behind tournament leader, Dewi Weber of Miami.
Weber holds the individual lead at nine-under, 135, after a stellar, six-under, 66, on Saturday afternoon. She leads second-place Anna Newell of Tennessee by one stroke, and Duke's Virginia Elena Carta by two strokes, while four players are tied for fourth at six-under, 138.
Kim resumes play tomorrow, looking to earn 1-of-9 individual qualifying spots for the fourth and final round of stroke play in Eugene. The top-nine individuals outside of the top-12 advancing teams move on to Monday's fourth round, aiming to win the individual NCAA crown and All-America status.
