LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The men's team won the Louisville Border Battle, while the women were fourth with several personal records and program top-10 marks. The Boilermakers had a successful trip for the one day meet at the University of Louisville Cardinal Park.
Nicholas Parks had a lifetime PR in the men's 400-meter dash by more than half a second Saturday. The senior won the event after running the second fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 46.53 seconds. The time not only adds Parks' name to the top 10 in program history, but it is the fastest by a Purdue man since 1962 when Dave Mills set the school record. Parks' No. 2 time in program history is 0.46 of a second behind the school record.
Autumn Heath had a huge day on the track as well. The sophomore opened up with the women's 100-meter prelims, and finished second with a PR time of 11.66 seconds. That time ranks fifth in program history and advanced her to the finals. There, she was even better, running a wind-legal 11.55-seconds time to finish second. Her time ranks third in program history, behind only teammates Devynne Charlton and Savannah Carson.
Micaela Hazlewood was another Boilermaker to have a career day. The sophomore thrower finished second in the women's discus, an event in which she finished Honorable Mention for All-America honors last year, with a PR mark of 52.76m (173-01). The distance moves her from fifth to fourth in program history.
Chelsea Meeks also moved her name up the program ranks in the women's discus. Meeks added her name to the list for the first time after throwing a distance of 48.97m (160-08) to finish fifth. The throw is a personal best for Meeks and ranks ninth in program history.
Shantyra Delaney followed up her huge performance in the 100m hurdles from the Texas State Invitational with an equally impressive performance Saturday. Delaney qualified for the finals after running a time of 13.67 seconds in the prelims, the second-best wind legal mark of her career. In the finals, Delaney matched her PR with a time of 13.44 seconds to finish second. Delaney's time ranks fourth in program history.
Malcolm Dotson won a pair of events Saturday. The freshman sprinter finished with the best time in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Dotson won the 100m with a wind-legal time of 10.51 seconds. He backed that up with a win in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 20.93 seconds. He was the only competition to have a time under 21 seconds.
Gerald McGee had a huge PR in the men's long jump. McGee leapt 7.36m (24-1.75) to win the event. McGee has been close to hitting huge marks all season, while narrowly fouling. Saturday was a different story, as his mark was his Purdue-best by more than five inches.
Brionna Thomas was just off her PR in the women's 200m dash. She finished second with a time of 23.56 seconds, just 0.04 of a second of her career best. Only one other individual in program history has run a faster time, and it is teammate Carmiesha Cox.
Jessica Harter continued her strong outdoor season. Harter finished third in the women's pole vault after clearing 4.11m (13-5.75). Only one individual in the competition cleared a higher bar than Harter, who ended up jumping at a school record bar, though narrowly missing.
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won the men's hammer throw and shot put Friday and Saturday, respectively. Enekwechi threw 64.64m (212-01) to win the hammer and backed it up with a throw of 19.44m (63-9.50) in the shot put, a mark he recorded twice Saturday.
The Boilermaker relay teams had huge success Friday as well. The men won the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay - neither of them close - while the women were second in the 4x400m.
