TUCSON, Ariz. - The Purdue women's golf team finished tied for fifth place at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona at Sewailo Golf Course on Tuesday. The Boilermakers shot 14-over, 302, in the final round, dropping two spots in the team standings, but topped four teams ranked ahead of them in the national standings, including No. 19 Colorado and No. 24 New Mexico.

While the Boilermakers struggled to make birdies on the day, freshman Covadonga SanJuan came through with her top collegiate round and led the squad shooting two-under, 70. The Purdue rookie made bogey on her first hole of the day, but played outstanding the rest of the way with three birdies and 14 pars to tie for the third-best individual round of the afternoon.

Purdue's other three team scores for the day came from junior August Kim and sophomores Marta Martin and Linn Andersson. Kim had her worst round of the tournament, shooting three-over, 75, but had the top individual finish for the Boilermakers, tying for 10th place in the final tournament standings at one-over, 217, and made her first eagle of the season with a 3 on the par-five, No. 5. Martin and Andersson wrapped up Tuesday at six-over, 78, seven-over, 79, respectively. Martin finished just outside the top-20 at 22nd, while Andersson tied for 40th place.

The host Wildcats took home the team title, shooting six-under, 282, Tuesday to finish seven-under, 857, for the tournament. The Wildcats' Krystal Quihuis edged out Arizona State's Linnea Strom for medalist honors, shooting two-under, 70, to finish seven-under, 209, for 54 holes. Arizona had five players finish in the top-11 individuals.

Purdue remains in the Grand Canyon State this week, and continues play Friday with the MountainView Collegiate at MountainView Golf Club in Tucson.
