Friday Results

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -
Savannah Carson and the Boilermakers had a huge day Friday at the Meyo Invitational. Carson ran a time faster than any other Boilermaker in program history in the 60-meter dash, before literally walking straight onto the long jump runway and leaping the second-best mark in program history.

Carson began her afternoon in the 60m dash. She was in the 11th of 12 heats and got a quick start out of the blocks. She led from start to finish and won her heat by 0.29 of a second after crossing the finish line in 7.37 seconds. That time is just 0.02 of a second off her personal best and school record, but is faster than any other individual in school history has run. Her time was the fastest through all of the prelims and is faster than any other individual in the Big Ten this season.

As she crossed the finish line in the dash, the competitor jumping ahead of her in the long jump had just taken her first attempt, meaning it was Carson's turn. She quickly made her way to the runway, changing shoes on the way, and got there just in time. Without any warmup, run through or any other preparation, Carson took her first attempt and leapt 6.41 meters (21-00.25), a PR by over a foot. Her mark is second best in program history, seventh best in the country this season and the best mark in the Big Ten on the year. Carson passed on her five remaining jumps and won by eight inches. The entire sequence between 60m dash and long jump took place in approximately 90 seconds of real time.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi continued his dominance in the weight throw. The senior threw a mark of 23.27m (76-4.25). Enekwechi is still the only individual in the country to throw better than 74 feet, one inch, and he has done so in every meet this season.

Kyle Webb won the men's 200m dash with the best non-converted time of his season. Webb ran a time of 21.30 seconds, which ranks fifth in program history. Webb is just the second Boilermaker to crack the school's top-10 list since 2008. Malcolm Dotson also ran in the event and finished fourth with a time of 21.56 seconds. Dotson and Webb also advanced to Saturday's semifinals in the 60m dash. Both ran times of 6.81 seconds to win their heats.

Anaquan Peterson tied his PR in the men's long jump en route to a win in the event. He leapt 7.58m (24-10.50) on his second attempt, which held on to be the best in the competition. Gerald McGee had his best day as a Boilermaker in the same event. He jumped a season-best 7.17m (23-6.25) on his first attempt, which qualified him for finals. There, he improved his mark to 7.21m (23-8.00), where he would finish. McGee finished fourth with a mark that ranks 11th in the conference this season.

Devynne Charlton continued her impressive season on the track. She won her heat of the 60m dash with a time of 7.45 seconds. That time was the third fastest of the prelims and advances her to Saturday's semifinals. Charlton also won her heat of the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.22 seconds was the fourth fastest of the prelims and advances her to Saturday's semifinals.

Autumn Heath and Carmiesha Cox also won their heats of the 60m dash to advance to Saturday's semifinals. Heath ran a personal best time of 7.50 seconds to finish with the seventh fastest time of the prelims. Her time is tied for the fifth-fastest in program history and is seventh in the Big Ten this year. Cox won her heat with a time of 7.55 seconds. Cox also finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.16 seconds. Heath had a PR in the 200m dash, where she was second in her heat with a time of 24.50 seconds. Heath's time ranks seventh in program history and gives the current Purdue roster the top seven 200m runners in program history.

Symone Black PRed in the 200m dash and finished fourth overall. Her time of 24.25 seconds ranks fourth in program history. Savannah Roberson also PRed in the event. She finished sixth overall with a time of 24.27 seconds, which ranks fifth in program history.

Shantyra Delaney advanced to the 60m hurdles on the women's side, while Justin Veteto did so on the men's side. Delaney was second in her heat with a time of 8.60 seconds. That time was a PR and ranks seventh in program history. Veteto ran a time of 8.11 seconds to finish second in his heat and eighth overall.

Janae' Moffitt was the runner-up and top collegiate finisher in the women's high jump. The freshman cleared three bars, topping out at 1.77m (50-9.75), which she cleared on her first attempt. Elizabeth Iversen had a huge PR in the women's weight throw, where she finished fourth. Iversen threw a best of 19.07m (62-6.75) on her final attempt. That mark ranks sixth in program history.
