WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Boilermakers won 22 events at the home-opening Gene Edmonds Invitational on Saturday. The team also had several individuals record top 10 marks in program history, and others that rank among the nation's best.
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi opened his season in the shot put and weight throw Saturday. The senior had his best season-opening marks and won both events, including an indoor personal best in the shot put. He started the day with the weight throw and won with a throw of 23.79 meters (78-00.75), a mark that is the world leader this season. In the shot put, the Laurelton, New York, native threw 19.31m (63-4.25) to win, a distance that ranks second in the country and second in Purdue history.
Tim Deal had his best performance in the heptathlon. The sophomore opened the event Friday with the 60m dash, where he won with a time of 6.96 seconds to earn 897 points. Next, he had the long jump where he finished second with a best of 7.18m (23-6.75) to earn 848 points. Deal's third event was the shot put, where he had a best mark of 12.39m (40-7.75) to finish third and earn 630 points. The hepathletes rounded out Friday's action with the high jump, where Deal finished third after clearing 1.93m (6-4.00) to earn 740 points. Saturday, he added a total of 2,080 points to finish with 5,204 points and win the event. That total ranks third in school history and his converted score of 5,228 ranks fifth in the country.
Matthew Garrison also had a strong showing in his first career multi event. His highlight was a huge PR in Friday's high jump. The sophomore cleared 2.02m (6-7.50) to earn 822 points. He finished the heptathlon with 4,836 points to finish second overall. His point total ranks sixth in program history.
The Boilermakers had a great day in the 200m dashes on both men's and women's sides. Kyle Webb won the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.58 seconds. That time converts to 21.20 seconds because of Lambert Fieldhouse's 200m flat track. That mark ranks fourth in the country this year. Brionna Thomas won the women's 200m dash with a time of 24.17 seconds. Her time converts to 23.80 seconds, which ranks fifth in the country. Malcolm Dotson was second in the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.87 seconds, which converts to 21.49. His converted time is 15th in the country. Devynne Charlton, Carmiesha Cox, Autumn Heath and Savannah Roberson finished second through sixth, respectively. Their converted times rank 12th, 15th, 18th, 23rd and 27th in the country, respectively.
Several other performances rank among the best in the country. Charlton was just off her PR in the 60m hurdles. She ran a time of 8.18 seconds to win the event. That mark is currently the second best in the country. Nicholas Parks ran a time of 48.78 in the men's 400m dash to win. His converted time of 48.02 seconds ranks ninth in the country. Susan Hubbard won the women's 800m run in her first race at Lambert Fieldhouse. The freshman ran a time of 2:15.09, which converts to 2:13.55. That ranks 11th nationally.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Parks, Webb, Kinard Rolle and Kendall Frederick finished second in the event with a time of 3:14.90, just 0.03 of a second behind the winning team from Western Kentucky. Purdue's converted relay time of 3:11.84 ranks fourth in the country.
Anaquan Peterson had his best day as a Boilermaker, setting PRs in the long jump and triple jump en route to a pair of wins. Peterson started with a mark of 7.58m (24-10.50) to win the long jump, a mark that ranks eighth in the country. He followed it up with a win in the triple jump with a career best mark of 15.75m (51-8.25), which ranks fourth in the country. His marks rank seventh and fourth, respectively, in Purdue history.
Freshman Janae' Moffitt won the women's high jump with her best outing so far. She cleared 1.78m (5-10), which ranks eighth in the country. Savannah Carson won the women's long jump with her best indoor mark as a Boilermaker. The junior leapt 6.06m (19-10.75), which ranks seventh in the country and is tied for sixth in Purdue history.
Micaela Hazlewood had her best day in the shot put at Purdue. The sophomore threw 15.06m (49-5.00) to finish third in the event as the top collegian entered. Hazlewood's mark ranks 19th in the country and sixth in Purdue history.
A pair of former Purdue student athletes was in action at the meet. Dani Bunch broke the fieldhouse record in the women's shot put with a winning mark of 18.33m (60-1.75). Her mark is currently the best in the world this indoor season. Geoff Davis competed in and won the men's high jump. He cleared 2.11m (6-11.00) in the men's high jump.

The Boilermakers are back in action at Lambert Fieldhouse again next weekend, as they host intrastate rival Indiana in the annual Purdue vs. Indiana Dual. A pair of Governor's Cup points will be on the line in the annual all-sports battle between the rivals. That meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET next Saturday.
