WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Maddy Williams scored twice in the second half to cap her five-goal week, leading Purdue women's soccer to a 2-0 victory vs. Miami (Ohio) in preseason exhibition action Friday afternoon at the Boilermaker Soccer Complex.
After posting a natural hat trick in the first 22 minutes of Tuesday's win at Milwaukee, Williams found the back of the net in the 49th and 81st minutes Friday. The junior accounted for five of the team's six goals this week as the Boilermakers won twice in shutout fashion with a plus-six goal differential.
Offensive chances were scarce for both teams in the first half Friday. But Purdue took control of the game over the final 45 minutes, out shooting Miami 11-4 after the halftime break.
Hannah Leinert setup Williams' goal with a left-to-right cross that found her teammate's head on the edge of the six-yard box for a score on a point blank header that doubled as a clean one-timer. After the game, head coach Drew Roff and Williams both highlighted center back Kim Love for beginning the sequence at midfield that led to the goal.
Williams scored again in the 81st minute when she caromed a shot into the net off the RedHawks' goalkeeper and inside the right post. She found space to shoot from about 20 yards out in the center of the field after a right-to-left pass from Nicole Robertson.
It would have been Williams' fifth multi-goal game as Boilermaker, but unfortunately goals and statistics from preseason exhibition games do not count toward career totals or program records. A five-goal week is impressive nonetheless.
Miami is coming off a strong 2014 season in which it compiled a 14-3-2 overall record and finished second in the Mid-American Conference.

Goalkeeper Erika Yohn played all 90 minutes Friday after splitting time in goal with Jordan Ginther Tuesday in Milwaukee. She finished with a pair of saves. Mikayla Lasky and Love were the only Purdue field players to go the distance. Robertson logged 56 minutes to lead the reserves. She joined Christa Szalach and Andrea Petrina as the first Boilermakers to enter the game off the bench.
Freshmen Hannah Mussallem and Dannah Williams were both in the starting lineup Friday. Mussallem was active on the offensive end throughout the game.
The final 18 minutes featured Dagny Olson and Katie Bittner both have quality scoring chances. Olson missed high with a rising blast from the inside edge of the 18-yard box after a back pass from Maddy Williams. Bitter had two opportunities in the final six minutes. The Miami goalkeeper made a point blank save on Bittner after a nice slot pass from Mussallem and Bittner missed high about four minutes later.
The Boilermakers open their regular-season schedule Friday (Aug. 21) when they host Ohio at 7 p.m. The exhibition against Miami Friday marked the beginning of a six-game homestand at the Boilermaker Soccer Complex.
