WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -Â The Boilermakers host their only outdoor meet of the season Friday and Saturday at the Rankin Track and Field. Purdue welcomes seven schools to the two-day Rankin/Poehlein Invitational. The Boilermakers will also honor their seniors during Saturday's action.
Friday's action will consist of the men's and women's hammer throws, while the rest of the events are slated for Saturday. Saturday will include a kids' 50-meter race on the track. Participants can RSVP by emailing sportspromo@purdue.edu. More information can be found at the top of the page.
Purdue will compete the majority of its teams at the weekend meet. Among division I schools the Boilermakers will go up against include Marquette, Western Michigan, Ball State, Miami University and Illinois-Chicago. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Tyler Askew will be among the leaders for the men's side. Enekwechi will kick things off for the men on Friday with the hammer throw. The school-record holder is set to compete at around 4:30 p.m. ET, after the women's hammer has concluded.
On the women's side, the sprints look to continue to work their way up the Big Ten and national lists. Devynne Charlton and Savannah Carson are within 0.01 of a second of the 100m school record, while Charlton took down the school record last Saturday in the 100m hurdles. The Boilermakers have individuals in the top eight of the Big Ten in the 100m, 200m, 800m, 100mH, 400mH and 3,000m steeplechase among running events. Several other Boilermakers are just outside the top eight, but looking to move up this weekend.
Friday's action is set to begin at 3 p.m. with the women's hammer throw. Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's javelin. The running events are set to begin at noon. Admission to both days is free.
