WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Alumna Lisa Pierce was named as one of the American Volleyball Coaches' Top 30 Coaches Under 30. Pierce is the head coach of the Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club.
Pierce got her start in coaching as a student assistant for the Boilermakers in 2010 after a four-year playing career and was awarded the AVCA "Coaches for Coaches" scholarship. She then went on to Samford University, where she was an assistant coach for three seasons. In 2011, she helped the guide the program to its first NCAA appearance.
As a Boilermaker, she posted 206 kills, 94 digs and 62 blocks in 73 matches. The 6-0 outside hitter from Darien, Ill., came to Purdue as the No. 38 recruit in the country and as the 2005 Suburban Life Volleyball Player of the Year by the suburban Chicago newspapers. Pierce graduated from Purdue in December 2010 with a degree in retail management and a minor in communications with an emphasis in organizational leadership and supervision.
The daughter of Greg and Carol Pierce is in her second season with the Milwaukee Sting and acts as the 15 Gold Coach and recruiting coordinator. She was hired in October 2013 as the Junior Volleyball Association's membership sales and service coordinator.
The AVCA's Thirty Under 30 Awards were created in 2009 to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. Recipients must be AVCA members.
