WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Savannah Carson was named the women's Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Carson helped break a school record and finish second in another with a pair of top-15 national marks.

Carson competed at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational and the Texas Relays over the weekend. Friday was a busy day for the sophomore. She started with the 100-meter dash at the Bobcat Invite, where she finished seventh overall and second among collegians with a time of 11.66 seconds (+0.4 wind). That time won her heat by 0.44 of a second and is second in program history, just 0.01 of a second off the school record. That time ranks 14th in the country among division I schools and the best in the Big Ten.

Later in the day, Carson competed at the Texas Relays in the 4x100m relay. Carson helped the women's team run a time of 44.97 seconds in the prelims to break the school record by 0.38 of a second. That time ranks 14th in the country in division I and the best in the Big Ten, while it finished the prelims in fourth. In the finals, the Boilermaker team finished sixth with a time of 45.25 seconds.

Carson is the first Boilermaker to pick up an outdoor honor this season. The last Purdue woman to be named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season was Aarin Jones last March.

The Boilermakers will be back in action this weekend, with the majority of the team traveling to the Florida Relays. Another group will head west to the Stanford Relays.
