Wilson dropped in the game-winning bucket with just three seconds left on Wednesday.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - The Purdue women's basketball team snapped a 10-game losing streak on Wednesday, edging 11th-seeded Wisconsin, 58-56, to open the 2015 Big Ten Tournament at the Sears Center. The Boilermakers closed the game on a 10-3 run as a layup by junior point guard April Wilson with just three seconds left gave Purdue its 11th win of the season and advancement to the second round of the conference tournament.

The Boilermakers trailed almost the entire game, falling behind by as many as nine points with just eight minutes left. Purdue battled back with stingy defense down the stretch, coughing up just five points in the final 8:12 and forcing five turnovers, including a pair of shot clock violations by the Badgers. After Wisconsin's Dakota Whyte tied the game with a long jumper, 56-56, with just nine seconds left, Wilson raced end-to-end and finished the lefty lay-up, putting Purdue head by two with only three ticks left.

Freshman Andreona Keys nearly stole the Wisconsin inbounds pass, but Badger senior Jacki Gulczynski grabbed the ball and headed up court, floating home a 40-foot shot as time expired. The officials called the shot good in real time, but after further review waived off the shot and gave the Boilermakers the victory.

Senior Whitney Bays led the Boilermakers with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals, while classmate Liza Clemons chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Sophomore Ashley Morrissette finished with 12 points, four rebounds and five assists, including a huge three-pointer to pull Purdue within one point in the final minutes. Wilson's game-winning layup was her only field goal of the game as she had four points and five assists.

Junior Nicole Bauman led Wisconsin with 16 points, while Whyte had 14 points and seven rebounds. The Badgers finish their season at 9-20 overall.

Purdue improved to 38-11 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament, and 4-0 in the Sears Centre, and became the first-ever 14-seed to win at the postseason event. The Boilermakers advance to face sixth-seeded Minnesota tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. (CT). Purdue split this season with the Golden Gophers, falling at home on Jan. 1, 81-68, and taking a 90-88 overtime win in Minneapolis on Jan. 22.
