WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Two Boilermakers are headed to Fayetteville, Arkansas, this weekend to compete on college track and field's biggest stage. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Devynne Charlton will represent Purdue on Friday and Saturday as the pair competes at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Enekwechi qualified in the weight throw. The junior broke the school record and is one of just two NCAA Division I athletes in history to record an official mark over 80 feet. Enekwechi's mark of 24.39m (80-00.25) came at Purdue's final home meet of the season, the Fred Wilt Invite, and ranks second in the country. Two weeks ago at the Big Ten Championships, he took the silver medal in the event a day after finishing runner-up in the shot put.
The men's weight throw trials and finals are set for Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
On the women's side, Charlton qualified in the 60-meter hurdles. The sophomore owns the school record with a time of 8.17 seconds which she ran at the Meyo Invitational in early February. At the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago, Charlton earned the silver medal with a time of 8.18 seconds after also finishing runner-up in the 60m dash.
The women's 60m dash semifinals are set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The top two in each semifinal will automatically advance to Saturday's finals, as well as the next four fastest times. Saturday's finals are set for 7:20 p.m.
