ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue women's basketball fell at the University of Michigan on Tuesday night in Crisler Arena, 81-50. The Wolverines got out to a big lead early and rode it home for the win as the Boilermakers drop to 10-18 overall and 3-14 in Big Ten Conference play, while Michigan improved to 16-12 (8-9 Big Ten).
An inspired Michigan team in its last home game of the year got to work early, racing out to a lead on three-point shooting, offensive rebounds and Boilermaker turnovers. The Wolverines hit six-of-12 from behind the arc in the first half, including a five-for-five performance from freshman Katelynn Flaherty, put back 16 second-chance points and turned 14 Purdue turnovers into 17 first-half points. The Boilermakers went on long scoring droughts in the half, allowing Michigan to build a 48-21 lead at the break.
Things were much better for the Boilermakers in the second half as they knocked down 50 percent of their shots (13-26), and committed just six turnovers, but they were unable to slow the Michigan attack as they hit 50 percent as well and maintained their lead down the stretch.
Purdue junior April Wilson had a solid individual performance, finishing with 16 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals, while sophomore teammate Ashley Morrissette joined her in double figures with 12 points.
The Wolverines had four players in double figures, led by Flaherty and senior Nicole Elmblad with 19 points apiece. Senior Cyesha Goree finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and junior Madison Ristovski turned in 15 points.
Purdue concludes the regular season on Saturday, hosting Michigan State for Senior Day. The Boilermakers will honor upperclassmen Liza Clemons and Whitney Bays with a postgame celebration at Mackey Arena.
