LINCOLN, Neb. - The Purdue women's basketball team suffered a 69-59 loss at the hands of 16th-ranked Nebraska on Monday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena, falling to 9-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play. The Boilermakers committed 19 turnovers, resulting in 19 Cornhuskers points, which turned out to be the ultimate difference in the game. Junior April Wilson scored a career-high 20 points in defeat for Purdue, while senior Whitney Bays turned in her ninth straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Nebraska did the bulk of its damage in the opening half, converting 12 Purdue turnovers into 15 points and taking a 33-24 edge to the locker rooms. Senior Tear'a Laudermill had all 10 of her points before the break, while classmate Hallie Sample scored seven of her 15 in the opening frame.
Purdue battled throughout the entire second half, closing the Nebraska lead to three points at the 11-minute mark (41-38) and four points at the seven-minute mark (51-47). However each time the Cornhuskers came through with a three-point shot and were able to extend their lead back to nine.
The Boilermakers continue life on the road on Thursday, heading to No. 21 Minnesota for a 7 p.m. (CT) tipoff at Williams Arena.
