Sophomore Bridget Perry posted career-high marks of 17 points and nine rebounds on Saturday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's basketball team used a solid defensive performance and a career-best showing from sophomore Bridget Perry to earn a 65-51 victory over the University of Denver at the second day of the Basketball Travelers International (BTI) Invitational at Mackey Arena on Saturday. With the win Purdue improves to 6-4 on the season and will face Wright State University tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. for the tournament championship.

Perry was the saving grace in an otherwise tough day for the Boilermakers as she hit career-high marks of 17 points and nine rebounds, going six-for-nine from the floor and five-for-seven from the free throw line. Seven of her nine boards came on the offensive end, and are the most offensive rebounds by a Boilermaker this season.

Purdue shot just 35.5 percent from the field (22-62), and a season-low 7.7 percent from behind the arc (1-13), but compensated by outrebounding Denver, 47-33, hitting 20-of-25 free throws and committing just 13 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers held Denver to just 35.7 percent from the floor (20-56), and 24 percent from three (6-25), while forcing the Pioneers into 17 turnovers and limiting them to just five-of-nine free throws.

Despite not shooting the ball well (4-13), senior Whitney Bays played a fantastic floor game and posted her fourth double-double of the season. She finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, a career-high six steals, four assists and two blocks. Fellow senior Liza Clemons joined Perry and Bays in double-figures with 10 points, while junior Hayden Hamby matched a career-high with five rebounds.

Denver, which falls to 2-10 with the loss, was led by seniors Morgan Van Riper-Rose, who finished with 15 points, and Jordan Johnston, who tallied 11 points. The Pioneers will battle UC Irvine in tomorrow's opener, with tip-off set for noon.
