WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Highlighted by team season-best times/scores in eight of the nine event wins, Purdue men's swimming and diving was victorious in dual meet action against Western Kentucky, 165-132, Friday evening at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
The Boilermakers won nine of the 16 events, headlined by sweeping the breaststroke and diving events. Purdue was also victorious in the 100 and 1000 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly and the 400 free relay.
Marat Amaltdinov won the 200 breast with a sub-two minute time of 1:59.20 in his official team debut, already moving into seventh place in program history. Steele Johnson's winning score of 461.33 in 3-meter diving was not only 50 points better from rest of the field, but also good for second in program history.
Lyam Dias posted a team season-best time of 54.88 while beating WKU's German standout Fabian Schwingenschlogl and Amaltdinov in the 100 breaststroke.
Jamie Bissett recorded Purdue's top score of the season in 1-meter diving (380.40) and surpassed 400 points again while finishing second to Johnson on 3-meter.
After being out touched by a tenth of a second by WKU's Cody Reul in the 200 free, Josh Ehrman won the 100 free and anchored the Boilers' 400 free relay team to victory in the second half of the meet. Stephen Seliskar, Guillermo Blanco and Jes Stephens also contributed to the relay win to close out the night. Ehrman's anchor split of 45.82 helped Purdue take a race that was too close to call going into the final exchange.
Individually, Seliskar won the 100 back (49.51) and took second in the 100 fly (49.22), posting team season-best times in both events. Danny Conway finished the night with a victory in the 200 fly to go along with runner-up showing in the 500 free and 200 IM.
Nate Hopkins posted Purdue's first victory of the night by winning the 1000 free with a personal season-best time (9:26.03).
The Boilermakers are idle from competition next week before returning to action Nov. 20-23 for the final meets of the fall semester. The full roster of swimmers will travel to the Minnesota Grand Prix (Nov. 20-22) while the divers will join the Purdue women at the Ohio State Invitational (Nov. 21-23).
