A CLOSER LOOK AT PURDUE'S PROBABLE LINEUP
- The addition of Andy Hoselton at 165 and Tanner Lynde at 184 are the two changes to the Boilermakers' lineup this week. Lynde was the 184-pound starter in 13 of Purdue's 14 duals a year ago, while Hoselton made three dual appearances wrestling at 174 early in the season.
- With two duals on the docket this weekend, the starting role could change up in half of the weight classes. A switch at 174 would allow redshirt freshman Jacob Morrissey to make his dual debut for the Old Gold & Black.
- Redshirt freshman Aaron Assad (125) and redshirt sophomore Tyler Kral (285) will be wrestling their first career dual in Holloway.
- It has been nearly two years since Nick Lawrence has wrestled in a home dual for the Boilermakers. In his last outing in Holloway, Lawrence scored an 8-4 decision over Iowa Western's Peter Stewart on Dec. 16, 2012. The redshirt senior returned to the lineup against Cal Poly the first time since wrestling at the Franklin & Marshall Duals on Feb. 23, 2013.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
- Indiana Tech will wrestle in its first duals of the season Saturday the Campbellsville Duals. The Warriors will face NAIA foes St. Andrews (N.C.), St. Catherine (Ky.) and host Campbellsville (Ky.). They began the season at the Michigan State Open (11/2) and have also competed in the Patriot Open (11/8) hosted by Cumberlands (Ky.). A pair of grapplers, Thomas Gary (149) and Stone Neese (174), took top honors at the Patriot Open.
- For the first time ever, the Indiana Tech wrestling team was ranked first in the East Region, helping them maintain their eighth position in the first regular season edition of the NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll released Wednesday. The Warriors have eight ranked individuals, including two of the top-10 grapplers at 133. Four wrestlers entered the poll after being unranked in the preseason edition.
- Aaron Assad has already seen and defeated one of Indiana Tech's 125-pounders this season, shutting out Kris McKinley, 5-0, in wrestleback action at the Michigan State Open.
- The Warriors' probable lineup features two NAIA National Championships qualifiers from last season in McKinley and Mitch Pawlak. Pawlak earned All-America honors at 133 pounds with a seventh-place finish.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
- Northern Iowa opened the season at the Central Missouri Open (11/16) and crowned five champions: Dylan Peters (125), Levi Wolfensperger (133), Curt Maas (174), Cody Caldwell (184) and Jared Bartel (197). UNI led the tournament in falls with 37. Cooper Moore (165) and Adam Drain (184) each had four pins, tying the tournament leaders.
- Sunday's duals are the first of 2014-15 for Northern Iowa. The Panthers are coming off of a 13-0 campaign last season. They were the only Division I team to finish the dual season undefeated and it was the first time in the program's history an undefeated season was recorded.
- Northern Iowa returns four of its seven NCAA qualifiers from last season: Peters (125), Moore (165), Caldwell (174) and Blaize Cabell (285). With the graduation of All-Americans Joe Colon (133) and Joey Lazor (141), Peters is the lone returning All-American. He placed sixth as a freshman. Wolfensperger is also a two-time qualifier, last making the trip in 2013.
- Jake Hodges (141) and potentially Curt Maas (174) will be wrestling in their first-ever dual for the Panthers. Their lineup also features three weight class changes in Zach White, who moved from 157 to 149, while Maas has moved up a class and Caldwell bumped to 184.
