WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue women's soccer doubled up Michigan State in the shot count but was on target with only three of its 15 shot attempts in a 2-0 loss Saturday evening at the Boilermaker Soccer Complex.

The Boilermakers (6-8-1, 2-7 Big Ten) were shutout for the fifth time during their current six-game losing streak. It was also Purdue's fifth straight loss to the Spartans (8-5-1, 2-5-1 Big Ten), who posted their fifth shutout of the season. The Boilers were shut out for the seventh time in 15 games this year, the most since 2008.

Michigan State's Jamie Cheslik scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 30th minute to open the scoring. Allyson Krause scored her third goal of the season and third career against Purdue in the 85th minute to seal the victory for the visiting side.

Cheslik scored on a turn-and-shoot sequence from the inside edge of the 18-yard box after taking an extra touch to gain possession of a right-to-left cross from Paige Wester. The ball found its way inside the left post after goalkeeper Erika Yohn initially got a piece of the shot with a diving effort.

Mary-Kathryn Fiebernitz setup Krause's semi-breakaway down the right flank as MSU executed a counter attack. Krause was able to score with a ground shot into the bottom left corner of the net from the right side of the 18-yard box.

The Boilermakers recorded 10 of their 15 shots and all four of their corner kicks in the first half. In fact, the four corner opportunities came in the first 15 minutes of the game. And as those statistics would indicate, Purdue's best scoring chances were in the first half.

Michigan State goalkeeper Courtney Clem made a diving save to her left near the right post in the 10th minute to deflect away a shot by Makaela Nellams. Her other good save was in the 39th minute when she made a leaping save at the right post to snare a lofted free kick off the foot of Mollie Kuramoto from the left flank.

Kate Fowee missed wide left from the right side of the 18-yard box in the 37th minute on nearly the same chance that Krause scored on late in the game. Mikayla Lasky and Kuramoto both got off headers following a corner kick in the 15th minute, but Kuramoto's scoring chance to cap the sequence sailed high over the crossbar.

Andrea Petrina played in a pair of quality serves on free kicks deep in the MSU third early in the second half, but the Boilers were not able to capitalize on the corner kick-style sequences.

Vanessa Korolas, Kim Love, Kuramoto and Lasky went the distance among the Purdue field players. Nicole Robertson logged 40 minutes to lead the reserves. She and Fowee both started the second half.

Alex Hairston was honored before the game as head coach Robert Klatte presented the senior with a commemorative game ball for breaking the Boilers' all-time assists record Oct. 2 at Maryland.

Purdue returns to action Friday for a 5 p.m. ET game at Nebraska.
