Boilermakers Impressive in Fall Opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team concluded play at the Notre Dame Invitational by winning five of six singles matches at the Courtney Tennis Center Sunday. The Boilermakers were impressive during the three-day event, combining for a 16-2 singles mark and went 10-2 in doubles action.

One round of singles were contested on the final day of the three-day event and four Purdue players pushed their fall records to 3-0 in dominating fashion. In all four matches, no more than two games were surrendered in a set. Juniors Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Deborah Suarez each notched 6-2, 6-1 victories over Mary Closs of Notre Dame and Tulane's Jacqui Katz, respectively.

Daniela Vidal made easy work of Illinois' Jerrica Boone in the first set, 6-1, and the senior closed out the match with a 6-2 second set. Matching set scores of 6-2 were Andjela Djokovic's method to defeating Jane Fennelly of Notre Dame. Rounding out the winners was Nicole Robinson with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 match over Naz Karagoz of Tulane.

The Fighting Illini's Jade Hilton was the only opponent to defeat a Boilermaker, a 6-2, 6-3 match against Krisztina Kapitany.

The women's tennis team will be back in action when they host the Purdue Invite Oct. 3-5 at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
