WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers have added another player to the list of signees for the 2015 softball season. Gina Snyder joins Maya Hughes (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Stephanie Ramsey (Noblesville, Ind.), who signed national letters of intent in November.
Snyder, a pitcher from Tucson, Ariz., is a three-time All-Southern Arizona and All-D1 selection at Sahuaro High School under head coach Jeff Fowler. She posted a 2-0 record with 61 Ks and a 2.39 ERA in 41 innings en route to All-Southern Arizona All-Softball and All-D-1 second team honors as a rookie, while leading the team to the state semi-finals. As a sophomore, Snyder earned All-Southern Arizona All_Softball and All- D-1 third team honors after posting a 3-5 record with a 2.59 ERA and 62 Ks in 46 innings. As a junior, she went 8-4 with a 2.50 ERA and registered 94 strikeouts in 75 innings and earned All-Southern Arizona all softball and All-D1 second team honors. Thus far as a senior, the hurler has managed a 9-1 record with a 1.43 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 58 innings and has been named Max Preps Player of the Game four times and led Sahuaro to the Desert Mountain High School Softball championship. A four-year honor roll member, the daughter of Jim and Cara Snyder plans to major in engineering at Purdue.
Snyder played travel ball for the Arizona Aztecs, which won first place at the USSSA 16U national championships in 2011 and won the USSSA Arizona State 16U title. Her Arizona Force Gold team won the state title in the 18U division in 2011. In 2012, she played for the Arizona Desert Thunder Gold, which took first place at ASA Gold Nationals, and the Arizona HotShots which finished fifth at the TCS 18U Sparkler/Fireworks tournament. In 2013, her Lil Saints Gold team finished fifth in the silver division at TCS Nationals.
"Gina flat out makes hitters swing and miss with the movement and spin she can put on the ball," head coach Kim Schuette said. "She has good speed and is just beginning to come into her own. We think she has a lot of potential to throw harder and dominate even more and look forward to her making an immediate impact on our team next year."
The Boilermakers will graduate seven seniors from the 2014 team which has put together a 25-25-1 record and is fifth in the Big Ten standings with one week remaining of the regular season. The team wraps up the regular season against No. 12 Minnesota Friday through Sunday at the Boilermaker Softball Complex.
