WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Setter/outside hitter Val Nichol will be part of a 12-player contingent that will represent USA Volleyball and compete as the U.S. Collegiate National Team during a tour of Europe July 8-19.
UCLA Head Coach Mike Sealy will serve as the head coach of the team. He will be assisted by Jenny Glenn, associate head coach at University of Northern Colorado, and Kyle Robinson, head coach at Long Island University.
The players will depart July 8 with the first destination Venice, Italy, followed by a four-day training camp in Maribor, Slovenia. The squad will train and have friendly scrimmages with Slovenia's national team and Under-20 national team, along with other countries' Under-20 national teams. The U.S. will travel to Pula, Croatia, to compete in the Global Challenge July 13-18. The tour is being organized in conjunction with Bring It Promotions.
This program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Collegiate National Team China Tour roster was announced. Later this month, USA Volleyball will select 36 players to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program that will train and compete in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships from June 22 to July 1. The players will be placed onto three teams and compete in a round-robin event along with a Canadian Senior A2 team.
Athlete selections for all three U.S. Collegiate National Team programs are being determined based on evaluations from the U.S. Women's National Team open tryouts held Feb. 21-23 in Colorado Springs, Colo., which Nichol and defensive specialist Amanda Neill attended.
