Purdue Hosts Big Ten Leader Michigan Wednesday at Mackey Arena
- The Purdue men's basketball team continues its late-season gauntlet as Big Ten leader and No. 16-ranked Michigan visits Mackey Arena to conclude the season series between the two squads.
- Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. (ET) in West Lafayette. The contest will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network as well as on BTN2Go with Eric Collins, Stephen Bardo and Stephanie White on the call. It can also be heard on the Purdue Sports Network and SIRIUS (Ch. 91) and XM (Ch. 91) Satellite Radio with Larry Clisby, Ralph Taylor and Rob Blackman on the broadcast.
The Last Time Out -- Nebraska 76, Purdue 57 (Feb. 23, 2014)
- Purdue's first visit to Pinnacle Bank Arena would be one it would like to forget as the Huskers handed the Boilermakers their worst loss of the season in a 76-57 decision last Sunday.
- The Boilermakers shot just 30.2 percent from the field and were done in by a 26-8 run that spanned almost 10 minutes during the second half. Purdue also struggled with turnovers, turning the ball over 14 times which resulted in 19 Husker points. Meanwhile, Nebraska recorded just nine turnovers, in which Purdue failed to score a single point off.
- Freshman Bryson Scott recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench but was the lone Boilermaker in double figures. Rapheal Davis contributed nine points and a season-high eight rebounds, while Terone Johnson also scored nine points. Purdue's bench scored 27 points, while its starters totaled 30 points on 8-of-28 (.286) shooting.
Purdue Storylines
- Purdue closes the season by playing three ranked teams in its last four games, beginning Wednesday vs. Michigan. The Boilers will finish with [16] Michigan, at [20] Iowa, at [14] Wisconsin and home vs. Northwestern. Through Monday, the combined Big Ten record of Purdue's remaining five opponents is 33-23 (.589).
- Purdue has just two home games remaining (Wednesday vs. Michigan; March 9 vs. Northwestern). The Boilers own a 12-3 home record and average 11.4 more points at home than away from Mackey Arena (77.8 ppg to 66.4 ppg). With wins in their final two home games, Purdue can finish with 14 wins at Mackey Arena, which would mark only the 10th time in 47 seasons Purdue would reach 14 home wins.
- Purdue has struggled on the defensive end in Big Ten play, ranking 12th in the league in scoring defense (72.1 ppg) and 11th in field goal percentage defense (.436). The Boilers are also 10th in Big Ten games in turnover margin (-1.50).
Series History
- Purdue leads the all-time series with Michigan, 83-65, but the Wolverines have won the last three games, including a 75-66 victory over the Boilers on Jan. 30 in Ann Arbor.
- Purdue hasn't defeated Michigan at Mackey Arena since a 69-59 win over the Wolverines on Jan. 23, 2010, over four years ago.
- Neither team has scored 90 points in the series since March 6, 1994 (Purdue, 95-94), a span of 35 games.
- Matt Painter's first win against a ranked team as Purdue's head coach came against Michigan (Feb. 11, 2006).
