Robinson to be Honored at Purdue-Michigan State Game

Feb. 17, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Glenn Robinson will be honored at the Purdue-Michigan State men's basketball game Thursday.

In his two seasons with the Boilermakers, Robinson certainly was the "Big Dog."

After leading the Big Ten in scoring with 24.1 points per game and being named second team All-American in 1992-93, Robinson led the country in scoring with 30.3 points per game and was named the consensus National Player of the Year in 1993-94. He also received the John Wooden Award, which is presented to the country's top player and named after 1932 Purdue graduate John Wooden.

Robinson's 1,030 points during the 1993-94 season are a school record. He is the only player in Big Ten history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau in a season.

The Boilermakers won a school-record-tying 29 games in 1993-94, captured their first of three consecutive Big Ten championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight under head coach Gene Keady.

"Glenn was the easiest player to coach that ever played for me," Keady said. "He enjoyed practices and loved to compete. He was a dream to have as a player."

Robinson was inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

A native of Gary, Ind., Robinson was selected with the first overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He spent eight seasons with the Bucks and subsequently played for the Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs. Robinson helped the Spurs win the 2005 NBA Championship.

Tipoff between the Boilermakers (15-10, 5-7 Big Ten) and the Spartans (21-5, 10-3) is 7 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN.

The first 3,000 fans will receive a Glenn Robinson bobblehead.
